Exporting to AutoCAD: need contour intervals

I understand how to export a shapefile to a CAD drawing. However, I also want to include the contour intervals, which is data taken from an ELEVATION field in the shapefile attribute table. Can DWG files include attribute information? Do I need to convert the labels to an annotation feature class?
