Exporting Shapefile to CAD: lines/curves now appear as a bunch of points in AutoCAD

I created a boundary in AutoCAD, brought it into GIS through georeferencing to other shapefiles. I even made a shapefile for the dwg and assigned a coordinate system. However, when I open the new dwg. file in AutoCAD I have a bunch of point symbols, so all of the lines, arcs, polylines that were part of the original boundary are now gone. Any idea what might be causing this?
