Clip to extent of Data driven pages not working

I'm trying to create a map series using the data driven page functionality. For the display purposes I need to clip a certain feature class to the extent of the current data driven page. However everytime I try to set the "Clip Options" to this setting, ArcMap stalls out and eventually have to close it down. I am running ArcGIS 10.1, with the latest service pack on Windows 7 64bit on a Dell M6700.

Has anyone else run into this problem?
