I am trying to import a mosaic dataset from 1 file geodatabase to another file geodatabase with ArcCatalog. I have tried this with 2 mosaic datasets and they both ran for at least an hour without finishing the import before I stopped the process, as it appeared to be taking too much time.
I also copied one mosaic dataset from 1 file geodatabase to another file geodatabase and it took less than 1 minute.
Why is the import process taking so long?
Does the import process actually copy the raw images to the destination file geodatabase whereas these images were stored outside the source file geodatabase?
It appears that the copy operation just copies the components of the file geodatabase and does not affect (touch) the raw images that are stored somewhere else.
Any feedback on this process is greatly appreciated.
