Geocoding: developing new “address locator style”,
I participated in a conference and I got a new idea for the issue of building numbering!
“The number of building represents the distance from start of the street to that building rounded to the nearest odd/even number”. This fashion will solve two tedious issues:
1. The number of the building, in this case, represents a distance which gives the feeling of how far that building from the start of the street. For example, suppose that the address is “119 Ithaa St”, then this means that the building is situated 119 meters from the start of the “Ithaa street”. In case one is entering the street from the other direction of the street where the number of the first building is “500” then he could guess that he needs “381 meters” to reach the target. You are given two in one: the number of the building along with feeling regarding the distance!

2. The second important issue is that there is no need to allocate numbers for the buildings that are expected to be constructed in the empty parcels in the futures. As the number of these building represent the distance and it is already allocated and logically will be kept unique! It is the physical distance from the start of the street! No two buildings will be in the same point!

3. The issue now is how to develop a “style” that serves this fashion of geocoding? The “US Address: Dual Ranges” for example doesn’t give the EXACT location of the building as it divides the street to equal portion depending on the range “from left” to “To left” and “From right” to “To right”.

4. In our proposed scenario, the number of the building represents the distance (from the start of the street) and thus the system must be able to locate its accurate position based on this data.
Thank you
