remove city from shapefile

Hi, I am still learning. I have a shapefile of a country that has the state polygon. For some reason, the shapefile include one city's outline/polygon. I don't know why this is but I need to remove the city from the shapefile. I thought I could just remove it from the attribute table but all that did was leave the outline. How can I completely reomve this city without messing up the other polygons?
