Get the information/configuration of a mxd file

Is there a tool or python script to read out all the information/configuration of a mxd file?
I would like to compare two mxd files.
I have an mxd file and changed some layer properties and some other little changes, but I do not really know which changes.
So my idea is that if i can read out the information with a tool from both mxd-files I can compare them!
