Select By Location produces incorrect results

I'm using Select By Location to select polygons in a feature class that are intersected by polylines in another feature class. For most polygons it works; however, there are some polygons that are clearly intersected, but it won't select them (I've attached an image that shows an example of this). Both feature classes are in the same File geodatabase. I've checked the projection of the two feature classes and it is the same. I've also tried restarting my computer, but it still fails to select some of the polygons.

Has anybody come across this before? Any ideas on how to fix it?

I'm using ArcGIS 10.2 and Windows 7 SP1 on a 64-bit machine with 8GB of RAM.
