Hi there - New to forums so forgive me in advance if I'm posting this in the wrong place.
I know this issue has been discussed in previous threads but I still can't seem to resolve the issue. When I go to Add Data in ArcMap 10.1 some of the folder connections I have work flawlessly while other immediately hang, freeze or crash in my attempts to browse data - The same is true when simply trying to navigate to the same problematic folders in ArcCatalog. It will freeze or hang for certain network folders and local drives while not for others. I have absolutely no problem browsing these folders using a normal file explorer window.
I have tried removing all folder connections and re-establishing them in ArcCatalog, deleting my Normal.mxt and Normat.gxt, editing registry by going to regedit>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>ESRI and renaming it to ESRI_OLD. I also thought that maybe the folder I'm trying to connect to simply had way too much data in it and thus overwhelming ArcMap - So I tried to connect to a folder found much deeper into the folder structure. None of these approaches have worked for me.
I should say that eventually, 30 - 45 mins later, I can sometimes finally view the contents of these problematic folders but that is simply impractical and unusable.
I am running Windows 7 Professional, Arc 10.1 SP1 and have tried using various license levels from basic (ArcView) to Advanced (ArcInfo)
Any suggestions are welcomed - thanks in advance
