Folders not visible in ArcCatalog

I'm using ArcCatalog in 10.1 and for some reason a folder is not visible to ArcCatalog when expanding the normal Catalog Tree. There are no special permissions to the folder--in fact, I can connect to the folder separately with Connect to Folder, so I haven't been stuck, but I assume there's something fairly simple that's causing this failure.
