TopoEngine Error With Clip

Hi,

I have created a polygon layer of “Grids” using the geoprocessing data management "fishnet tool". The number of polygons (Grids) is 7639 with dimension of 26m x 300m. I ran the buffer tool on this Grid layer with 500m buffer distance and got a new polygon layer “Grid Buffer”. I want to clip this new Grid Buffer layer with another polygon layer “Population Density” which has 754 records, but every time the geoprocess ends after about three hours from running the clip tool with the following error message:

ERROR 999999: Error executing function. Invalid Topology [Topoengine error.] Failed to execute function.

I ran both the “Check Geometry” and "Repair Geometry" tools on the datasets several times, there were no errors. Furthermore, I checked the datasets topology through intersecting each layer with itself using the intersection tool. The feature count of each layer before and after the self intersection was the same which means that the data topology is good and there are no topology errors.
In addition, despite of reducing the feature numbers of the Grid Buffer layer from 7639 to 1700, the geoprocess ends with the same error message when I run the clip tool on them (i.e, the Grid Buffer and Population density layers)!!!.
However when I change the size of the grid layer polygons from 26mx300m to 300mx300m , the clip tool runs perfectly!! Therefore, I really confused since I don’t know the reason of this problem; is it related to the size of the grid polygons or size of the dataset itself and how do I fixed it ?
Note: I´m using ArcGIS 10.0 on Windows 8, 64 Bit, 8 Gb RAM. Both files are shape files.
Any help would be highly appreciated....

Best regards,
