No Overlap in Strip Map

I am creating a strip map based on a line feature class. While creating the strip map the dialog ensures there is a 10% overlap yet after refreshing the data driven pages tool using newly created strip map there appears to be gaps rather than any overlap between a few select pages. I have no idea why this is and cannot seem to find any reason for this in any previous discussions?
