I am trying to upload the contents of an excel spreadsheet to a geodatabase using ArcGIS 10.1 desktop (Standard version). I am using the 'Display XY Data' to add the table contents to the map, all my fields are displaying with the exception of a description field. One of the records contains approx 900 characters (with spaces) in the description field. When i remove some of the text the description field is displayed. Does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of text which can be uploaded to GIS via a spreadsheet, and if so, what is the limit?
