Automate data entry based on a multiple selection

I'm looking to automate my data entry based on a multiple selection. I have polygons that are owned by the same person and I need to enter the persons name for each polygon in the shapefile table. I have been using the selection tool and going though the 'field calculator' route but it's slow going (too many repetitive steps). I'm wondering how I automate the process so if I select 5 polygons owned by the same person a box would pop-up. I would enter the owners name once and the data is saved to each of the 5 polygons.
