I have two problem with some shapefiles (.shp) and related layer (.lyr) files I acquired for my research.
The first problem is that the global data-set comes in three part, North Pole part, Main Global Region and South Pole part. I can merge the shapefiles to get a global shapefile. But my concern is with symbology as they are different and how to merge them. All the symbols that are in North Pole .lyr file is not present in Main Global Region and South Pole layer files and vice-versa. So is there any way to merge the symbology information from 3 .lyr files to one file?
Now the second problem is related to the first problem, the .lyr file I acquired is made for ArcMap 9.3 versions. THey are not opeing in 10.1 version that I have now. So how to over come this problem? I still though have access to a PC with ArcMap 9.3 installed. So any help on that will be great.
