Trying to open a .mxd file created with version 9.2 using the ArcMap version 10.1, get an error message which says -
Opening the selected ArcMap document failed.
An unexpected error occurred while loading the map document.
The last successfully loaded component was:
esriCarto.SnapGuides {{31E081AE-CB02-11D1-876C-0000f78751720}}
The specified file does not contain a valid ArcMap document.
After hitting OK, it says -
ArcGIS Desktop has encounterd a serious application error and is unable to continue.
Are the two versions compatible, and files generated by the earlier version should be openable by the later version? If not, how would we even upgrade to the newer versions and not lose all the data?
