Upon upgrading from ArcGIS 10.0 to 10.1 (with SP1), we've been having difficulty in opening & working with older MXDs, presumably those created in version 9.3.1 & maybe even earlier versions. When we open one of these MXDs in 10.1, it may appear only briefly (maybe 1 second) or may remain open until we begin working on it, but then it soon crashes. Ultimately, we're treated to the "Send Error Report" popup ("ArcGIS Desktop has encountered a serious application error and is unable to continue.").
Is anyone else encountering this problem? Is there a solution?
BTW, we have been submitting those error reports to Esri, for what it's worth.
