We recently upgraded from 9.3.1 to 10.1 and have been unable to print 11x17 ever since. I can create an mxd, and it will print 8.5x11 and 8.5x14 just fine, but as soon as I alter the page size to 11x17 (I don't even have to save it as 11x17), I am unable to print. These are HP laser printers, and the print drivers are up-to-date. We don't have Chrome installed, so it's not part of that issue.
The current work-around is to export as a pdf and then print from Adobe Reader, but that's only a temp fix as the quality isn't as good as directly from GIS. And a related bug, I can't print the pdf from Acrobat Pro, I get the same error -- it has to be from Reader....
