Catalogue Data from MXD or folder

Hi,

I would really like a tool that will catalogue data into a spreasheet or database that is easy to access and read. Some of my projects are large and have so many datasets it would just take too long to document each one manually.

IS there a way to add the data to an MXD and export a spreadsheet with layer name, path location, data type etc?

Any help much appreciated! ;)
