ArcGis plotting directions on shp file

Hi Team,

I am new to ArcGis and trying to plot directions on map in ARCGis. Can you help me in this regard.

I need to plot directions on city counsil districts, Detroit map. Example from W Grand Blvd to John C Lodge Service with the details like, trun right at xxx, turn left at yyy etc. i just a blank .shp file but could not proceed further. Can someone provide some instructions.

How do we get a detailed street map and plot directions?
