Polygon color not filling in after polygon is reshaped.

Hi, I am working on ArcMap 10.1. I have a layer of several service areas, on the symbology for the layer each service area is a different color. When I reshape a polygon based on a change of service areas the change is accepted (if I select the polygon the new area is included in the highlighted selection boundary on the layer) though the color of the portion of the service area that was just added does not change.

I have saved the layer, closed it, reopened it, selected the service area, the complete area shows as the selection boundary, but the area just added is the same color as the service area it once was part of.

I hope I am making sense, any ideas??
