I work in a Production environment producing large quantities of complex maps daily. Our productivity is incredibly affected by the lengthy time it takes to update properties of symbols and labels.
Whether updating symbols and labels during an edit session or updating symbols and labels placed as map elements in layout view, right clicking to open the first window pop-up takes seconds if not tens of seconds, and opening every subsequent nested window popup each takes seconds if not tens of seconds.
I estimate the amount of time it takes to work with symbology and labels results in at least one lost hour of productivity per day, per staff.
This is not a post looking for suggestions on improving geoprocessing or raster display speed, or improving map performance using basemaps, or taking advantage of annotation, representation, styles...constant manual updates to our symbology and labels is simply inevitable sometimes, and I'm wondering what steps I can take to improve the application speed.
I am about to purchase a new workstation, and I'm optimizing it to best suit my geoprocessing and display needs, but am hoping there are hardware/software features or configurations I can consider to increase the speed of the ArcMap application itself.
I am currently running ArcMap 10.2 Advanced, but I’ve had significant lag time with this issue in ArcMap since starting out with 9.1.
Please offer any advice...thank you!
