Merging multiple features based upon shared attribute

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is possible, but I would like to join multiple features in an attribute table based upon a shared attribute name. For instance, all ecosystems that share the same biome name: Tundra. I would like the values (ex: number of species) of the features with the shared attributes (ex: Tundra) to be added together to create a single feature (All Tundra Ecosystems with total Species population). Can I do this?
