Read Blob File Contents and Export to File

The following article shows a script to get ESRI attachments in BLOB format to a file format.

I would like to do something similar, but not ESRI attachments. I have a non-ESRI database with a BLOB field that contains images that I would like to export out to files. Does anyone know if similar code to the above example is available to perform this operation?

Any help or hints are greatly appreciated.
