Required: Study material about algorithms for map caching

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this but I want to study about algorithm for map caching and how ArcGIS arranges its png images of map while caching in a tree like folder structure. I had stumble upon a link some time back but now I cant find it. If any one can pass me a link containing information about my query , that would be great.
