Mosaic Dataset Uncompressed Size

We have a mosaic dataset with 1580 georeferenced jpegs. The uncompressed size of the mosaic dataset is 2.06 PD (petabytes). The problems we are having are simply related to opening up the attribute table or exporting the footprints. We get out of memory errors and failed footprint exports.

I get that 2.06PD's is huge. But why can't ArcGIS open the attribute table or export the polygon footprints? It's as if ArcGIS is uncompressing the whole mosaic, or a good portion of it.

Here is the error in ArcMap:

Is there any way to manage the amount of memory that ArcGIS is accessing for these mosaic datasets? Any other suggestions?

The mosaic dataset is stored in SQL Server. We are using ArcGIS 10.2.
