ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 will not read the vector data in SDE 10.0. It throws a SQL DMBS error when trying to connect.
The ESRI client to server compatibility matrix: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/...000000n8000000 indicates it should be compatible.
It is unknown whether it will be fixed by simply getting SDE to the same version as the client software but has the potential to be a significant issue so we wanted to get this logged.
ArcMap can connect to and read tabular data from DBGISSupport. However, the table name that resolves in ArcMap has a new % character injected at the start of it. I have put screen shots of all of these behaviors as attachments.
The vector error happens regardless of whether you create a new connection using 10.1's spatial database dialog, or if you copy over a .SDE connection file made using 10.0 that uses the application server type setting.
Important to note that at least at the ArcView license level, the create spatial database connection dialog does not allow you to create an app server type of connection. But it does honor those types of connections made using 10.0.
