ArcGIS 10.2.1 vs. 10.1

Hello,

This post will be two questions.

Before I pose the two questions, let me give you our current situation. We have two ArcEditor licenses, on version 10.0 (SP5). They are on Dell T7600's with Dual Xeon Intel Processors. OS is Win7, 64-bit. RAM is 32gb. Video is NVIDIA NVS510 (4gb RAM).

The kind of work we do is 98% vector mapping, hardly any imagery ever used. We do some geoprocessing but mostly we just load layers and build maps for Oil & Gas E&P stuff. The maps sometimes will have over 40-50 layers though.

First question entails whether or not we should upgrade to 10.1 or 10.2.1. Seeking your opinions on +/- on doing either. Some people we've talked to have told us to stay away from 10.1 and go straight to 10.2.1. Others have said vice-versa.

Second question entails getting the truth on how well either 10.1 or 10.2.1 REALLY utilizes system RAM, and are there any special tweaks or settings we can implement when installing either of these two versions.

I have heard that although these versions DO now work with the 64-bit OS, they only utilize the extended RAM under certain situations - so I need some clarification on this.

Thanks in advance for your replies!
