I'd like to plan a backpacking trip for next summer in a National Forest that I've been wanting to visit. I typically use USGS 1:24,000 topographic quadrangles to help plan these trips (in the past they've always had hiking trails marked on them). The trouble is that their new, digitized geo-referenced pdf maps do not yet contain layers for trails.:( It's kind of hard to plan a hiking trip without knowing where the hiking trails are.
Surprisingly, I have found the National Forest does have a shape file containing the forest's hiking trails on their GIS page.:D Is there a way to use this shape file to add trails to the geo-referenced pdf file available from the USGS so that I can plan my trip? Thanks in advance for your help!!
