I have recently upgraded to a Windows 7 64 bit machine with 16Gb of RAM. ArcGIS10.1 has been working without problems until last Friday. When I went to open ArcMap on Friday afternoon it was getting stuck on the loading document splash screen and then closing the program. I remedied this by deleting the Normal.mxt which allowed ArcMap to open as usual.
The problem I’m left with is that ArcToolbox won’t open in either ArcMap or ArcCatalog. Pressing the button to launch the Toolbox causes the blue circle to pop up and hang for quite a while before closing the program.
The only thing which changed on my machine on the Friday was that a number of windows updates were installed. I’ve tried restoring the machine to a restore point before the updates took place and this has made no difference.
I’ve also tried updating Python to 2.7.3 which installed and didn’t fix the problem and I tried to install ArcGIS desktop service pack 1 but the install failed.
I found a thread on the forums which had a similar problem which suggested the folder permissions in the Python folder needed to be modified, but this hasn’t helped either.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
