Summarize extraction layer

I need to get the summary data for the pixels in each polygon within an extraction layer. I have tried zonal statistics, my layer does not show up as an available choice, and I tried to build a raster attribute layer, but the error message says only a single band integer raster dataset is a valid input. I checked and the properties of the layer show it to be a 1 band raster. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
