How To Enter Unique ID's With 2 or More Editors? (Versioned Dataset)

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has some ideas/best practices on manually entering unique values to a field (something like n +1). There will be 2 users concurrently editing a versioned dataset of streets. Each street segment needs its own unique value. What are some ways to avoid both users entering the same numbers in the unique value field?
