XML Error when exporting to gdb feature class

I am getting an error when I try to export a selected feature to a geodatabase. The error says: "Error exporting data. XML error in line 0, position 0. An invalid character was found in text content."

These are files I inherited and did not create myself. Does anyone know how to find and resolve this error?
