ArcGIS 10.2 - ArcMap Options not working

I just upgraded to 10.2 and when I go to ArcMap Options and change, for example, the highlight colors, it doesn't actually change them. I save the MXD, reopen it and the colors look like they saved in the ArcMap Options but when I highlight the records it's still the same default colors. This is the same if I change the text size, etc.

What's wrong?
